Gardening in Zone 4 in central Wisconsin. Thursday, August 13, 2015. Bare ground, a rarity in garden. The last few days since returning from Pennsylvania, I have been digging out plants and composting them. A plant here, a plant there, to whole planting areas. Too much is too much. Thursday, August 13, 2015. The flower and fruit of the crabapple tree in the Upper Garden have remained a feature in the garden since we bought the house in 1989. Unfortunately, by the end of the season, most of the leaves have become diseased and fallen off the tree. To help hide the unsightly foliage late in the season, I planted Clematis tangutica. The nodding lantern-shaped yellow flowers are a beautiful contrast to the shiny red crabapples.

The estate is situated in three acres of its own woodland gardens containing around 120 mature trees. It was built in 1969 by Wates Ltd and is located off Sandy Road, Teddington.
